Day 10. A tour of the proposed high level radioactive waste repository at Yucca Mountain. Our guide is excellent and touches on many of the social, political, economic, and geological issues associated with this vast multi-billion dollar project. No waste has ever been stored here. The Yucca Mucker, shown here, can drill a 25 foot (7.6 m) tunnel at 18 feet (5.5 m) per hour. The Absolute Geology shirt is the 2005 New Paltz tee shirt, featuring a photomicrograph of a hornblende crystal from my petrology class that was thought to look like a bottle of vodka.
