Day 0 - Yosemite Valley. Alpenglow on Half Dome from Yosemite Valley, the evening before the hike begins. The 210 mile John Muir Trail (JMT) stretches from Yosemite Valley to Mount Whitney, one of the most famous long trails in the world. I am excited, but full of trepidation. I had the JMT on my mind for decades when a friend invited me to hike it. We planned for months, but circumstances required him to cancel just a few days ago. These photographs document my personal experiences hiking the JMT solo. By my nature I photograph geology and natural history. However, the experience was also social, not documented here are friends, old and new, whose support and company were an essential part of my journey.
